Owner Great Eastern Management Company is seeking to redevelop a portion of the site as a mixed-use apartment complex with 352 units. [citation needed]

Part of its parking lots and internal road network were acquired for the extension of Hillsdale Drive Extension.[1]

History

The center originally opened in 1986 and currently has 168,278 square feet of single-story commercial space. [2]

The Towers Limited Partnership is the name of the company that serves as owner and the Great Eastern Management Company is the operator

Stormwater dispute

In June 2012, Seminole Square entered into a dispute with the adjacent Stonefield regarding the stormwater drainage being deposited on their property.[3] Edens, the company developing Stonefield, has twice appealed the city's decision to uphold the violation and failed in each instance.[4] [5] In August 2012, Edens filed a motion in Charlottesville Circuit Court asking for the city's determination to be reversed. [6]

Redevelopment

The plans submitted in 2019 proposed constructing 11 five-story apartment buildings at Seminole Square. (Conceptual rendering by Henningsen Kestner Architects.)

In 2018, the company announced plans to redevelop a portion of the space. [7] The Planning Commission recommended approval of this in July 2018. [8]

Shortly after a more ambitious plan was submitted that called for eleven five-story buildings for around 500 residential units on the site of the former Giant. [9]
