  • 1938Crozet Lions Club forms with 21 members with Henry Chiles serving as the first president. [1]
  • 1940 – Members of the Kiwanis Club debate a proposal to relocate City Hall at Midway and vote in a presidential straw poll. Thirty members selected Republican Wendell Willkie and 27 chose Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Some members argued Midway, the former site of Lane High School, would be better suited as either a playground or a convention center. [2]
  • 1943 – Amos E. Taylor, director of the U.S. Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, told the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce that the war efforts had demonstrated America's ability to produce goods. However, he also said that pent-up demand for consumer spending could lead to inflationary pressures. [3]
  • 1952George M. Alexander is on trial for attacking a woman on Wertland Street with a knife and proceedings last three hours before continuing to the next day. [4]
  • 1954 – The Thomas Jefferson Birthplace Memorial Park Commission approved initial sketches for a recreation of an 18th century home at Shadwell. This three-person group was chaired by Raymond Hunt. [5]
  • 1963 – Charlottesville Superintendent George C. Tramontin tells attendees of the Johnson Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association that passage of the $3.5 million bond referendum was crucial and warned that otherwise classes would have to be opened up in church basements. [6]
