Also know as: Monticello Memorial Park. Not to be confused with: The Monticello Graveyard which is owned by the Monticello Association, a group of lineal descendants of Thomas Jefferson and his wife, Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson.
Monticello Memorial Gardens is a cemetery that lies just outside of Charlottesville in Albemarle County, at the base of the hill of Thomas Jefferson's estate and residence of Monticello. Located at 670 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville, VA, the first burials in the cemetery were in 1930. As of January 2023, it has contains more than 10,200 burials.
Famous memorials
- Gerald Lee Baliles, former Virginia Governor (1986 to 1990).
- John Stewart Battle, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates (1930–1934) and the Senate of Virginia (1934–1950), and served as governor of Virginia (1950–1954).
- Jim Copeland, former University of Virginia athletics director
- John W. Kluge, an American venture capitalist, philanthropist, and activist. He purchased Morven from the Stone family in 1988.
