Meriwether Lewis Elementary School
Meriwether Lewis Elementary School is an Albemarle County public elementary school providing pre-K through 5th grade. The school is part of the western feeder pattern. Students from Meriwether Lewis will move on to Henley Middle School and graduate from Western Albemarle High School. [1]
At the beginning of the 2019 school year, Meriwether Lewis enrolled 447 students. [2]

History
Meriwether Lewis Elementary opened in 1922 and moved to its current location near Ivy in 1988. The school was named for Albemarle-born pioneer, Meriwether Lewis.[1] Lewis is perhaps best known for his exploration of the Louisiana Territory with William Clark and Sacajawea in 1803. The school originally featured a component for agricultural education for high school students. [3]
Description from 2019 State of the Division Annual Report
"The core purpose of Meriwether Lewis Elementary School is to develop a community of learners where everyone is invested in each other’s learning. We exist to lift every student’s academic voice and have that voice appreciated by others." [4]
Awards
The school won the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence in 2009, 2010, 2011,[1] and 2012.[5]
