Lake Albemarle is a 35-acre man-made lake in western Albemarle County, formed on Spring Creek, which drains into the Mechums River. The waterway was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938. [1]

History

The city of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the state of Virginia each put up $3,500 to purchase the land. However, the General Assembly in 1948 passed legislation authorizing its sale. In March 1948, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution protesting the State Game Commission's sale of recreational areas. [2] The state indicated it would consult with the city and county before it would sell the land. [3]
