Klöckner Pentaplast of America, Inc. (kpA) was founded in Gordonsville in 1977.[1] The international plastics manufacturing company in Louisa County was bought in 2007 for $1.8 billion by one of the world's largest private equity firms, The Blackstone Group.

Klockner Pentaplast revenues grew from $1.1 billion in 2001 to $1.6 billion in 2006. The number of the firm's employees also jumped, from 3,100 in 2001 to 3,400 in 2006.[2]
