Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement
The 'Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement' task force, also known as 'JADE' is an interagency task force that deals with drug enforcement and some anti-terrorism activity within central Virginia.
In 1995, JADE was formed as an anti-narcotics coalition between Albemarle, Charlottesville, the University of Virginia, and Virginia state police. The DEA also has an agent assigned to JADE. After 9/11, an FBI agent joined JADE and anti-terrorism was added to the task force's duties. Later two ATF agents were also assigned to JADE. Both the Charlottesville and Albemarle SWAT teams work with JADE in enforcing the crimes.
