Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry was the namesake for the Curry School of Education and Human Development (now known as the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development) at UVA. In 2019, the school began examining whether it should be renamed due to Curry's ties with the Confederacy and slavery.[1] The name of the school was ultimately changed in 2020, with Ruffner Hall (the primary location out of which the school operated) also being renamed to Ridley Hall in honor of Walter N. Ridley, the school's first Black graduate.
