Everettsville
Everettsville is a community in Albemarle County. It was originally named after Charles Everett, a physician and personal secretary to James Monroe.
History
In 1820, Everett purchased 400 acres of land (collectively known as "Pouncey's" at the time) which had formerly been part of the Shadwell tract from Thomas Jefferson. This area would eventually come to be known as "Everettsville."[1]
In the mid-nineteenth century, Everettsville served as a point along the stagecoach route between Richmond and Staunton. Nicholas Trist's wife and children briefly took up residence in the locale in early 1829 whilst Trist was serving as a clerk in the U.S. State Department.[2]
Dr. Charles, a son of the politician John J. Bowcock, practiced his profession in Everettsville prior to his death in the 1890's.
