Elder Research
Elder Research, Inc. is a consulting company that is headquartered in Charlottesville at 300 West Main Street. The business was founded by Dr. John Elder in 1995 and specializes in data science, predictive analytics, and text mining. At present, the company employs a team of over 100 data scientists, engineers, and support staff to serve clients in the public and private sectors as well as domestically and internationally.
Company history
1995 - Elder Research is founded by Dr. John Elder in Charlottesville, Virginia.
1996 - John Elder develops Target Shuffling, a process for testing the statistical accuracy of data mining results.
2000 - Elder Research incorporates corona into logo. Corona Plots were developed by Dr. John Elder to instantly visualize the effect of selecting stocks for an investment portfolio.
2002 - In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Dr. John Elder accepts a 5-year appointment by President George W. Bush to help guide technology for national security.
2005 - Elder Research begins contracting with U.S. Defense and Intelligence Community agencies to support the Counter Terrorism and Counter Intelligence mission space.
2008 - DocGraph is created and deployed to clients as a multi-dimensional similarity and visualization engine for text clusters.
2011 - Percept is created and deployed to clients as a universal adapter to extract text from documents in a variety of formats. Elder Research acquires Mustard Seed Software to integrate 10 years of experience designing commercial-grade software applications for data science. Elder Research also opens its first satellite office in Washington, DC to better serve clients in the public sector. Additionally, Elder Research develops and co-sponsors the first Predictive Analytics World for Government - the first vendor-neutral predictive analytics conference designed to help agency leaders understand and apply analytics to accomplish their mission.
2014 - MicroFaVa is released as a high temperature (super-alloy) material property modeling tool for aerospace applications. Furthermore, Elder Research develops and co-sponsors the first Predictive Analytics World for Healthcare conference – the premier cross-vendor networking event for healthcare professionals interested in analytics to improve operations. Moreover, Elder Research opens satellite office in Maryland to better serve clients in the Defense and Intelligence Community.
2015 - RADR is formally launched as a data visualization toolkit for rapid development of custom, web-based, interactive data visualizations.
2016 - Glyphic is formally launched as a platform that enhances information extraction from complex PDF documents. Additionally, Elder Research opens satellite office in Raleigh, NC to continue to serve and support the commercial, research, and non-profit sectors. Furthermore, Gerhard Pilcher becomes CEO of Elder Research and Dr. John Elder moves to Chairman of the Board.
2017 - Elder Research spins off a machine learning product company, Blackmarker, that automatically redacts Personal Identifiable Information (PII) from lending documents up to 100X faster than a paralegal with standard point-and-click software.
2019 - Elder Research enters into a Joint Venture, called PSAIL, with Publicis Sapient to create a European AI/ML consulting company.
2020 - Elder Research acquires Statistics.com to grow Analytics and Data Science Training Services. Elder Research also introduces updated logo with a modernized rendering of the original corona icon. Corona Plots were developed by Dr. John Elder to instantly visualize the effect of selecting stocks for an investment portfolio.
2021 - Elder Research invests in Smarter Contracts, a UK based FinTech company focused on data privacy.
2022 - Elder Research partners with Sira-Kvina to develop and launch a predictive analytics solution for the Hydropower industry.[1]
