Dairy Road Bridge
The Dairy Road Bridge crosses the Route 250 Bypass to connect Dairy Road to Grove Road. It was constructed in 1954[1] as part of the construction of the bypass.[2]
In 2017, the Dairy Road Pedestrian Bridge was built to provide a parallel bicycle/pedestrian pathway across 250. At that time the vehicular bridge received concrete repairs, joint replacement, and epoxy overlay, along with the removal of the sidewalk attached to the bridge.[3]
Replacement
In 2019, Mid-Atlantic Engineering completed a study on potential options to rehabilitate or replace the aging bridge.[4]
VDOT awarded $7,210,664 in State of Good Repair funding to replace the bridge in August 2021, which was appropriated by City Council on April 18, 2022.[5]
On January 5, 2023, the city announced a plan to use a Design-Build process to procure the bridge replacement.[1] A contract was awarded to A. Morton and Associates on February 23, 2023.[6]
A design public hearing was held on May 22, 2025.[7] The selected design and construction plan involve a one-year closure of the crossing.
As of January 2026, $12.62 million was allocated for the project in the VDOT Six-Year Improvement Plan.[8]
