Recent history
Sometime around January 2024, the food industry certifier Food Chain ID recognized tagatose as "plant-based and vegetarian." However, the Food and Drug Administration categorizes tagatose as an "added sugar" and Bonumose disputes that classification. This conflict dates back to 2018 when the company filed a petition related to a ruling on another company's product. Bonumose filed a lawsuit against the FDA in 2023. [2]
