In Albemarle County, the road is signed Avon Street Extended or County Road 742, whose southern terminus is Scottsville Road. Avon Street is one of the city's designated entrance corridors.

The street also crosses the CSX Railroad tracks that separate downtown Charlottesville from Belmont via the Belmont Bridge.
