Aubrey Bernard Thacker was the first Charlottesville soldier to be killed in World War I. [1]

Biography

Thacker was born on December 8, 1896. He was the son of Bernard F. Thacker, a bridge foreman for the C&O Railway. He joined the Army in 1915 and served a series of posts before the war. Thacker married Valeda Ayotte and had a child who was seven weeks old at the time of his death.
