Andy Parker
Andy Parker was a Democratic candidate in the 5th Congressional District of Virginia race in the 2022 election [1] Parker announced his candidacy on January 27, 2022,[2] but ultimately, he conceded the Democratic nomination to Josh Throneburg in April, 2022.[3]
Background
Andy Parker is the father of Allison Parker, a WDBJ-TV Journalist fatally shot while reporting live on air in 2015. According to Parker, the death of his daughter is what prompted his bid for Congress, although he has previously dabbled in the world of politics before his 2022 congressional run.[4]
Parker served on the Henry County Board of Supervisors from 2004 to 2008, sought election to the House of Delegates in 2007,[5] and in 2017, he considered attempting to run for Congress in the 6th Congressional District of Virginia, although this never materialized.[6]
