Albemarle Tax Rate
Albemarle County adopts a new real estate property tax rate annually as part of the budget development process. The tax rate is for the calendar year while the fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30. Albemarle County has a revenue sharing agreement with the City of Charlottesville that obligates the county to contribute a portion of real estate tax revenues to the city's general fund.

Pre-1977
Prior to 1977, Virginia didn't require real estate tax to be levied at 100% of appraised value — rather, localities had an "assessment ratio" on which the tax levy applied.[6] Reassessments were performed infrequently, including in 1957 (effective 1958) and 1963 (effective 1964).[7]
A 1955 reassessment was rejected in March 1955 by the Real Estate Reassessment Board, five minutes before their terms expired, leaving the 1948 assessments in place along with the 15% assessment ratio.[8]

| 1961-62 | $3.80[13] | 15% |
| 1955-56 | $3.95[14] | 15%[8] |
| 1954-55 | $3.50[15] | 15% |
