- May 5 – The UVA Board of Visitors meets for the first time and discusses matters of fundraising and construction.[1]
- October 6 – In a Masonic ceremony, President James Monroe laid the cornerstone for the first building of Central College, now known as the University of Virginia. Former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were in attendance. Completed in 1819, Pavilion VII was the Academical Village’s first building and served as the University’s first library until the Rotunda was completed in 1826.[2]
