Events

February 23 –The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. The viewers appointed to view the road from the North Garden through Ivy Creek to Rockfish Road made their report to the court, with the male tithables of several local gentlemen being ordered to clear the same road with John Lyon as their overseer. A road was ordered to be cleared from Holliday River to Red Oak House, with the male tithables of several local gentlemen being ordered to clear the same road with William Chambers as their overseer. On the motion of John Biby, permission was granted to him to open a road from the mill to the three forks of Byrd Creek. A road was ordered to be cleared from the mouth of the Tye River to the Tobacco Row Mountains, with all the inhabitants between the Buffalo River, Buffalo Ridge, and the south river above the moth of Harris' Creek to clear the same road with John Harvie Sr. as their overseer.

February 24 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. A road was ordered to be cleared from Charles Caffrey's on the Black Water to cross the James River to John Harvie's Road, with the hands of several local gentlemen being ordered to clear the same road with Charles Lynch as their overseer. Arthur McDaniel was ordered to be overseer of the road from the head. of Sycamore Island Creek to Glover's Road in the place of William Cabell, with the hands of several local gentlemen being ordered to clear the same road.

March 23 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. The old road from John Bostick's to John Hodnett's was ordered to be cleared alongside the trail from John Hodnett's along Dabbs' Path to the county line, with the male tithables of several local gentlemen being ordered to clear the same road with John Sanders as their overseer. Francis Baker was appointed surveyor of the Mount Road from Number Twelve to the county line.

March 24 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. William Allen was ordered to be overseer of the Horn Quarter Road to the county line, with the male tithables of several local gentlemen being ordered to work under the aforementioned William Allen in clearing the same road. A road was ordered to be opened from the mouth of the Totier to the courthouse, with William Harris and the hands formerly assigned to work under him to clear the same road.

April 20 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. Lazarus Dameron and his three sons, along with several local male tithables, were ordered to clear a road from the courthouse to Shepherd's Ford, with Dameron as their overseer. Several local male tithables were ordered to clear a road from the courthouse to Martin King's Road, with John Anthony as their overseer.

May 25 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. A petition for a road from John W. Norton's to the courthouse was granted, with the petitioners being ordered to clear the same road with Sanders Montgomery as their overseer and for them to be exempt from work on other roads. The inhabitants of the Slate River were granted permission to open a road from Glover's Road along the ridge between Hatcher's Creek and Little Buffalo Creek to Alexander Trent's on Willises' Creek.

July 20 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. The petition of William Diucuid and others to open a road from the New Road from the Slate River near Mr. Marrs' to the courthouse was granted, with Diucuid, Noble Ladd, and John Ladd being ordered to clear the same road with Noble Ladd as their overseer. Noble Ladd and Gideon Marr were ordered to mark out the same road. Obadiah Woodson was appointed surveyor of the road that Nathaniel Hockett had formerly been appointed surveyor of, with the latter's same hands being assigned to work under Woodson.

July 22 – On the motion of John Biby, the Albemarle County Court granted him permission to clear Bridle Road from his mill to the three forks of Byrd Creek.

August 25 – The Albemarle County Court ordered a road to be cleared from Finley's Ferry to Samuel Stephen's, with several local male tithables being ordered to clear the same road with William Megginson as their overseer.

November 23 – The Albemarle County Court made a number of court orders. John Sorrell was appointed overseer of the Three Notch'd Road from Number 12 in place of James Difir, with the latter's same hands being assigned to work under Sorrell. Samuel Shelton was appointed surveyor of the road from Balinger's Creek to the Rockfish River in place of William Harris, with Mr. Stith's hands and all tithables above Ballenger's Creek being ordered to assist Shelton in clearing the same road. John Goodwin was appointed surveyor of the road from the courthouse ferry to the road he ha formerly cleared in place of Allen Howard.

December 21 – The Albemarle County Court granted permission to William Fitzpatrick and others to open a road from Stephen Heard's to the late secretary's road near John Burn's plantation.

December 22 –The Albemarle County Court ordered the male tithables who formerly belonged to the late secretary at Clear Mount to work on the road from James Taylor's Ford to Martin King's Ford, with Taylor being appointed as their overseer.[1]
