14th Street NW is a north-south street in the Venable Neighborhood near the University of Virginia. Primarily a residential street, 14th Street NW traverses Grady Avenue, Virginia Avenue, John Street, Sadler Street and Wertland Street. Venable Elementary School is located in the 400 block.

14th Street's northern terminus is at Madison Avenue in a mixed residential area. The southern terminus is at West Main Street, a block of 14th Street considered part of the Corner, a popular gathering place located near the historic Central Grounds of the University of Virginia. There, bars and restaurants typically operate into the early morning hours.

List of shooting investigations

• September 4, 2021 - at 12:31 a.m. on this Saturday morning, Officers from the Charlottesville Police Department and University of Virginia Police Department responded to Boylan Heights Restaurant, 102 14th Street NW, for a shooting.  A patron, while in the bathroom of the restaurant, was shot and suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The bullet entered the bathroom after being fired from an adjacent bathroom. The victim was transported by the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad to the University of Virginia hospital, where she was admitted for treatment. Based on surveillance footage obtained during the investigation, a CPD officer was able to identify the suspect in the shooting. Taylor Ryan Woodson, a 22-year-old resident of Louisa County is charged with the following offenses and is being held at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail: 18.2-280 - Willful discharge of a firearm with bodily harm; 18.2-56.1 - Reckless handling of a firearm.
