The City of Charlottesville in early 2019 finally completed a pedestrian bridge across the north-south railroad line that bisects McIntire Park. The project allows for pedestrians and cyclists to travel east-west on a trail planned to run parallel to the 250 bypass[1]. [2]

History

The project received the endorsement from the MPO Policy Board[3]

By 2017, the project was fully funded at a cost of $2.2 million, allowing for the city to issue a request for proposals. [4]

Construction was set to begin on March 5, 2018. [5] The bridge was raised into place on September 6, 2018.[6]

The bridge was officially opened on April 20, 2019. [2]
