At their July 14 2009 meeting the Charlottesville Planning Commission approved the initiation of a staff study regarding regulation of yard sales. The study is in response to City Zoning Inspector Craig Fabio's concerns about unauthorized business activity in residential areas and excessive illegal signage[1].
At a planning commission work session on September 22, 2009 the commission decided not to consider a permit system, but rather to direct zoning officials to use other means to stop people from operating semi-permanent sales in their yard[2].
