Background

C.P. and J.H. McKennie began publishing The Central Gazette on January 29, 1820. ^[1] The weekly paper ceased publication in July 1827. ^[2] The publication became the Virginia Advocate.

Editions of the newspaper are available at the University of Virginia and the Library of Congress. ^[2]
