Reference wikipedia style?

Is the intent to use the wikipedia style as a baseline, where not otherwise specified? If so recommend referencing it here. B.S. Lawrence 15:12, 7 June 2009 (EDT)

Agreed. I updated the style guide to separate out Charlottesville Tomorrow's internal guidance and made a link to Wikipedia style appear at the top. Bwheeler 21:55, 8 June 2009 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure I'm not using MLA

I think you can see how I've formatted my web references ([URL page title], author, owner, publish date, retreive date). (it borrows heavily from wikipedia's {{cite web}}). And I think those references are just plain fine. However, I'd bet they're not MLA.

I think that it's more important that the references be a) clear and b) easy to follow, and I'd start the style guide's citations section that way. Here's my fear -- that someone doesn't add a valid reference because they don't know MLA or are otherwise put off by the style requirement. If people want to clean references to MLA after the fact, that's their business, but you'd hate to have me stop adding my references because they don't conform, right? B.S. Lawrence 11:11, 5 July 2009 (EDT)

Agreed. Clear and accurate references are better than no references. Charlottesville Tomorrow staff will be using MLA, and that's the standard we would like in all articles in cvillepedia. The EasyBib.com site is one easy way to generate those references.--Bwheeler 11:20, 5 July 2009 (EDT)
Great. Take a look and see if you like how I put this on the main page. B.S. Lawrence 11:32, 5 July 2009 (EDT)
And here we still are! Hoping to get new people to get interested in the minutiae of this website and how it might help the future know the now. --Seantubbs (talk) 19:51, 3 August 2022 (EDT)

Notes v. References

On the list of things that really don't matter, but I notice: See Wikipedia's 3G article for what I'd consider the distinction to be. I'd say they're interchangeable unless both are on the same page. B.S. Lawrence 12:04, 6 July 2009 (EDT)
