Mortimer Y. Sutherland Middle School is an Albemarle County public middle schools offering classes in sixth through eighth grade. Sutherland is part of the Northern Feeder Pattern. Sutherland students attended either Baker-Butler Elementary School, Hollymead Elementary School, or Stony Point Elementary School and will continue on to graduate from Albemarle High School. As of 2012 Sutherland has almost 600 students enrolled and employs 74 staff and faculty members.[1]

History
Sutherland Middle School was founded in 1994 and named for M.Y. Sutherland Jr., a former principal, school board member, member of the county board of supervisors, and lifelong advocate for quality education.[1] In 2012 Sutherland Middle School was awarded the Governor's Award for Education Excellence.[2]
