The Southern Urban Area Master Plan will be undertaken by the Albemarle County Department of Community Development to provide a framework for growth in the southern section of the County's development area. The work will be conducted as part of the 2012 update of the Albemarle County Comprehensive Plan. [1] The plan will cover Neighborhood 4 and Neighborhood 5.

History

The southern growth area is the only one that has not been master planned by the county government.

At the Board of Supervisors' retreat in October 2008, Community Development Director Mark B. Graham said the Southern Urban Area Master Plan could be delayed because the Southern Area B Study done in conjunction with the University of Virginia and the City of Charlottesville already includes a “significant framework” for how to guide growth in that region[2]. At the same meeting, Supervisor Lindsay Dorrier said that he thought the Southern Urban Area Master Plan should be done as soon as possible to prepare for the Biscuit Run development.

In February 2009, the Board adopted the Community Development department's work plan, which pushed back the start of the Southern Urban Area plan to fiscal year 2010[3].

The work will now be done in 2012 as part of the comprehensive plan update. [1]
