Lugo-McGinness Academy

The Lugo-McGinness Academy is an educational facility operated by the City of Charlottesville Public Schools that serves at-risk adolescents. The academy works with students who are unable to receive their middle or high school educations for behavioral reasons. [1] [2] [3]


About

Lugo-McGinness Academy is a small, non-traditional academy that serves Charlottesville City Schools students in grades 8-12. Students may self-select or be referred for admission to the program. Located Venable Neighborhood.

The Learning Center seeks to provide a calm, healthy atmosphere and individualized learning approaches to teach students who have a history of disruptive behavior, criminal records, or long-term suspensions. The Center also provides counseling to students and affords them the opportunity for a high school diploma or GED preparation.[4]

The Lugo-McGinness Academy is named for Alicia Bowler Lugo and Rebecca Fuller McGinness, two Charlottesville natives and educators.
