June 2012 derecho

The community was struck with a major storm known as a derecho on June 29, 2012. The destructive, fast-moving thunderstorm affected Virginia and other states. Two Albemarle County residents were killed by falling trees during the storm, and nearly 40,000 people in Albemarle and Charlottesville lost power, some for a week or longer. [1] High winds destroyed a pavilion at Claudius Crozet Park. [2]
