The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is a privately funded group whose mission is find and support highly intelligent students to the University of Virginia.

New facility

In 2010, the foundation moved into their new $22.8 million, 32,000 square foot facility on Maury Avenue near Central Grounds. The new Jefferson Scholars Center was designed by VMDO Architects and has many environmentally friendly features[1].

To make way for the new building, the foundation demolished a house that historical preservationists had claimed was significant and worth keeping. The demolition prompted the city to expand the number of structures that are protected[citation needed].
