The Institute of Textile Technology was founded in 1944. The agency held its first annual conference in April 1948. [1]

Part of its charge was to explore new techniques and this resulted in activities such a committee to study new ways to dry textiles. [2]

Joseph H. Brant was named as Director of Fundamental Research on October 17, 1944. [3]

Tim T.L.W. "Tillie" Bailey Jr. became the director in 1946. [4]
