EcoMOD

ecoMOD is a joint research project of the University of Virginia School of Architecture and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences that partners with afffordable housing agencies to experiment with energy efficient building practices. [1] The executive director is John Quale.

Background

Since 2004, ecoMOD has completed seven projects in Charlottesville, Mississippi, and Jamaica. [2] Partners have included Habitat for Humanity and the Piedmont Housing Alliance. Their collaborations have resulted in the construction of a single-family home on Elliot Street, renovations to historic homes on Ridge and 5th streets and a two-unit condominium in Fifeville, as well as projects in Mississippi and Jamaica. In 2013, ARCHITECT magazine awarded ecoMOD one of its eight R+D Awards. [3]
