Collett M. Thach

Collett Munger Thach (1922-2013) was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Charlottesville City Council in the June 11, 1968 election. He also served on the board of the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority. [1]

Biography

Thach was born on June 22, 1922 in Birmingham, Alabama. He moved to the area to attend Woodberry Forest School. After graduation, he entered the United States Army Air Corps and became a fighter pilot. Following the end of World War 2, he entered the University of Virginia and graduated in 1950. He married Edith French "Bobsie" Compton, a Charlottesville native.

Thach founded Security Storage and Van Lines and served as its president for many years.

He helped relaunch the local branch of the YMCA in 1964. City Council appointed him to the CRHA board in 1966. [1]
