Charlottesville Lady Arm Wrestlers
Charlottesville Lady Arm Wrestlers, or CLAW, is a group of women who hold periodic arm wrestling competitions to raise money for charity. As of June 14, 2012, the organization had raised more than $20,000.[1] Their mission is "to empower all women and strengthen communities through theater, arm wrestling, and philanthropy."[2]
History
CLAW began in Charlottesville in 2008 and has spawned many sister organizations throughout the United States.[3] Each lady wrestler creates a theatrical persona; some recent Charlottesville wrestler names include The Reverend Blackbush, Homewrecker, and Tragedy Anne. Typical rules are that the best three-out-of-five wins, and local celebrity judges can decide tie breakers.[4]
Many of the events have been staged at the Blue Moon Diner.
