History
The Patricia Ann Byrom Forest Preserve Park was accepted into the Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department by the Board of Supervisors at their meeting on July 2, 2008. The nearly 600 acres of land for Byrom Park was donated in 2004 by Robert Byrom, in honor of his wife. Byrom Park is the largest park in Albemarle County's park system.[3]
Improvements
Both parks will be used for biking and hiking trails, and other recreational purposes. $612,513 was allocated in the 2008 capital improvements program budget to close existing unsafe trails, establish park accesses, and otherwise prepare the parks for public use.Bioblitz
On May 1, 2010 the county's Natural Heritage Committee worked with park officials and amateur naturalists and historians to conduct an inventory of the park. Over 60 people attended the event[4].
