5th Congressional District of Virginia

Parts of Charlottesville and Albemarle County are represented in Virginia's fifth congressional district. It is Virginia's largest congressional district by area at 10,181.03 square miles.

The district is generally south of Albemarle, containing parts of the surrounding Greene County Nelson County, Fluvanna County and Buckingham County, and further afield, Campbell, Bedford, Cumberland, Appomattox, Prince Edward, Charlotte, Lunenburg, Franklin, Henry, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Fauquier, Rappahannock and Madison County, as well as the cities of Bedford and Danville.

The current[when?] incumbent, Republican Robert Hurt, is not seeking a fourth term creating an open seat.

Former Albemarle County supervisor Jane Dittmar became the Democratic nominee in early May 2006. Another Democrat, Ericke Cage, dropped out on January 25, 2016. [1]

The Republican candidate is State Senator 5th Congressional District of Virginia on wikipedia. [2]

Garrett was selected at a convention on May 14, 2016. [3] Other candidates were entrpreneur Jim McKelvey, Michael Del Rosso and Joseph Whited. [4] [5] [6] Andrew Griffin had been a candidate but dropped out of the race.
