Strother R. Hamm
Strother R. Hamm (1890-1970) was a Charlottesville furniture store owner who was elected to City Council on June 8, 1948. [1] [2] He served at least one term as mayor. [citation needed]

1948 election
Hamm was a Democratic candidate for City Council in the April 6, 1948 primary. [3] He received the highest number of votes. [4] [5]
Hamm placed first in the 1948 race with 1,443 votes. [1]
Biography
Hamm was born on March 15, 1890 and died on March 19, 1970. His remains are located in Monticello Memorial Park. [6] He was an owner of a furniture store. [7] Hamm received the most votes with over 1,200 people casting a ballot for him. [8]
When he won the Democratic primary in 1948, he was operator of Gilmore, Hamm & Snyder. [8]
In February 1949, he told city fire fighters that city buildings were obsolete. [9]
