James Barr III

James Barr III ran for Charlottesville City Council as an independent in 1948 as part of the Independent Citizens Association. [1] At the time, Barr was an attorney and auditing instructor at the University of Virginia. At 29, he was the first Republican to seek a Council seat for many years. He came second in the June 8, 1948 election. [2]

At the time of his election, he was believed to be the youngest elected. [2]
